Hello there and welcome to The Card Concept, a brand new challenge blog, starting in January, 2014!!
My name is Lesley and I am the challenge creator. I am so excited to share my vision for this challenge with you...here is how I came to this new challenge idea.
I know as a card maker, I often struggle with my "style". I remember in the early days of crafting, that I often looked to established card makers for a style reference and I have dabbled with many different styles throughout my journey.
I bet you have done the same or that you are just starting out, and you too, may be looking for some style ideas or tips.
So this idea came into my head...a challenge that teaches and encourages us to try new styles or to practice the style we love. Or maybe to help us FIND our own style.
There are 12 designers. I will be introducing each of them to you on this blog, starting December 1st. Each of them have a specific style that they use. We will be highlighting 6 styles- clean & simple, clean & graphic, clean & layered, shabby chic, freestyle collage and classy & elegant.
I know there are probably many more styles out there but we are starting with these six...we shall see what happens!
We have a Frequently Asked Questions Page found HERE.
If we have forgotten anything, please leave us a comment and we will add the answer there.

ReplyDeletethis sounds so fun and interesting!I like to think that I make cards in all kinds of different styles, but my favorite is shabby chic/vintage. I've always struggled with clean and simple.

Sounds like fun. I'll be watching. I'm just an eclectic goof - still haven't figured out what I want to be when I grow up. ;-)

ReplyDeleteThis sounds very fun and since I am once who still is NOT sure of my style, I will be looking forward to this. Right now I would say that I LOVE Clean and Simple, but it's not as easy as it sounds, so I'm also looking for inspiration! :)
ReplyDeleteWhat a fantastic concept, Lesley ... so looking forward to meeting all the designers and seeing what you all have in store for us. I love CAS so would say that's my style although I can veer towards quirky! Anita (in France) :)
ReplyDeleteLesley, this is too cool! I love anyhting CAS!!!! Will love to try them all! I am still not sure what style I am?!
ReplyDeleteThis sounds like a fun place to be. I'm not sure I have a style. I feel like I am all over the place. lol Maybe I will figure it out here.
ReplyDeleteThis is such a great idea for a challenge blog! My style is mostly CAS but I want to be able to feel comfortable doing other style cards.
ReplyDeleteLesley this sounds so wonderful! I like creating in different styles and CASEing all the wonderful designs I see from others! :)
ReplyDeleteLesley, this challenge is exactly what I need to figure out my style! Right now, I feel like I'm 'copying' other people's cards, rather than developing my take on what they've done. I love challenges, but I can't figure out my style. How about: random confused, with a bit of abstract lost tossed in. VERY excited to try out styles, and especially to learn! Happy Saturday - you've made mine sparkle with this news!

Another great idea, Lesley, for brand-new card artists and those that are seasoned. It's fun to change things up, even if you gravitate towards a certain style, so I think this will be very popular! All the best! Darnell
ReplyDeleteSounds like FUN!!!....And if you know me, you know I stick with CAS all the way! :) Can't wait to see what inspiration this challenge will bring! :)
ReplyDeleteI LOVE this concept Lesley! Genius idea!!! Can't wait to try these new styles :)
ReplyDeleteLesley, your idea is a BRILLIANT one! While I tend to stick to CAS, I always want to try my hand at new styles and I admire those that can do them so well. I am signed on to follow and can't wait for January to be inspired! Best of luck in your new venture!

ReplyDeleteThis sounds like a fabulous idea! Looking forward to joining in the fun in the New Year! :-)
ReplyDeleteLooking forward to add my simply elegant, chic style to the challenges!
ReplyDeleteThis sounds like a way to do something different and something that I like. I think I sway more on the shabby chic. Looking forward to participating in the challenges.
ReplyDeleteLesley, I saw your challenge site today after seeing one of my DT sisters, Lee Ann Barrett (from Sweet 'n Sassy Stamps) as one of your newest DT members (great choice). What a wonderful challenge idea! Defining style and setting up the challenge this way was genius. I see great things for this site. Congratulations!

You really are a busy lady, Lesley. Love the concept of this new challenge blog. I must have missed a reference to this site on your own blog while enjoying my trip to Sydney, Australia. Fortunately, I was directed here by Ardyth's post just now. I'm still trying to figure out my own style of card making, but I know I'm increasingly drawn to CAS, which is why I started following Ardyth recently. After reading the designer introductions so far, I'd say I'm already feeling fairly comfortable with layered CAS cards. Looking forward to meet the rest of the DT and I cannot wait for the first challenge to begin.
ReplyDeleteWhat an interesting idea for a challenge. Seeing how twelve different designers interpret the same inspiration piece will provide the rest of us with plenty of ideas for sure. It's got me thinking about what my style is; I am not sure it fits neatly into one category.
ReplyDeleteLooking forward to all the inspiration - what a great idea. Not sure which style I fall into....could be one of three lol!
